Frequently Asked Questions

Spark is a fundraising initiative of Leadership for Educational Equity (LEE) that supports diverse candidates who reflect the values and experiences of those they represent.

LEE is a non-partisan leadership development organization that develops civic leaders to change unfair laws and create better ones. Over 50,000 members are part of the growing LEE network working across the country to eradicate the injustice of educational inequity.

Laws and policies govern all aspects of our society. Unfortunately, many of them are inequitable, especially to those in historically marginalized communities. We need new leaders from diverse backgrounds to change those unfair laws.

In our current political system, candidates must raise enormous amounts of money to run winning campaigns. This is a barrier for many candidates from historically marginalized communities. Spark brings together these equity-minded candidates, who lack access to traditional fundraising pools, with values-oriented political donors.

Spark is strictly a fundraising initiative, but the candidates we raise money for do all have access to holistic, best-in-class campaign supports through their membership in Leadership for Educational Equity (LEE).

Spark provides Leadership for Educational Equity (LEE) members from historically marginalized identities with the financial resources they need to run and win strong campaigns. These candidates may have any political party association and have one or more of the following identities: Asian American Pacific Islander, Black, Indigenous, Latinx, LGBTQ+, multi-racial, and/or woman.

All money raised through Spark goes directly to candidates.

No, contributions to Spark are political donations and are not tax-deductible.
